In Act One, Abigail is crying as she grasps Proctor and says, I cannot pile for stargazein; I cannot romance but find you comin through or so door (Miller 22). Abigail meaningfully tries to draw Proctor closer to him by telling how she wakes in the middle of the nighttime to await his arrival. She doesnt dream of him but instead, prefers his straw man during the middle of the night.
